Help set up, break down and provide general assistance at the Expo. Registration and packet pickup volunteers will be on hand for rider registrations and packet pickups. Volunteers will collect pledge sheets and distribute rider packets, T-shirts and goodie bags to participants.
Place route markers along the bike route the night before each day of the ride and retrieve them after that day's route closes.
Assist the site coordinator in setting up areas such as the start line, overnight area and finish line by setting up supplies and equipment, i.e., tables, tents, chairs, banners, signs, etc. Moderate to heavy lifting is required.
Assist the site coordinator in taking down the site, loading up trucks and cleaning up the area. Moderate to heavy lifting is required.
Answer general questions about the Bike MS: Georgia Power Savannah Ride and distribute printed materials such as route maps and schedules.
Check in volunteers at the Volunteer Check-In Tent, as well as direct volunteers to places of need throughout the tour.
Direct traffic, parking and cyclists at all official sites. Keep in mind that this job requires standing for long periods of time.
Break points are sponsored by organizations and companies that get a group of volunteers together to serve riders at the break point. The group is responsible for setting up the break point, working the break point during the ride and cleaning up after the last rider passes through.
Check in and check out bikes, organize them according to rider number and secure site at all times. Some moderate lifting may be required.
Assist the meal sponsors in preparing and distributing meals throughout the route.
Decorate the start line and finish line sites and cheer the riders across the start and finish lines.
Provide medical assistance at all official sites along the route. Medical volunteers must be licensed or certified professionals for this position.
SAG volunteers patrol the route in SAG vehicles to provide assistance to riders who need a lift forward on the route. SAGs also assist break points in delivery of supplies and serve as communication liaisons. SAG volunteers will not use their own vehicles, but will drive rental vans.
Motorcycle marshals provide motorcycle support along the route to troubleshoot problems and ensure the safety of riders.
Provide communication throughout the ride.
Assist the staff as needed.
Provide entertainment during dinnertime and at start/finish.
