- Decide on a team name.
- Download the Team Captain Manual for detailed information about the event and for fundraising and recruitment tips.
- Set fundraising and recruitment goals for the team (don’t forget to share those goals with team members). Download the Team Goal Setting Form for assistance.
- Secure top executives and community leaders to join team.
- Approach your place of business for team support.
- Form a team committee or recruit a co-captain (Share the responsibilities!).
- Make sure each team member registers individually under the correct team name.
- Announce the formation of your team at staff, club or faculty meetings or in organizational publications.
- Distribute registration forms with team info already filled in to colleagues and friends.
- Keep an updated roster posted in a public area, so everyone can see who has joined.
- Display Bike MS: Georgia Power Savannah Ride 2008 posters everywhere.
- Prepare to dress in style — ask your company or local businesses to provide or support the purchase of jerseys, t-shirts, and hats for your team to wear. Download event and Society logos for production of apparel.
- Get the word out! Place articles in a company or organizational newsletter, local paper and Web site.
- Last week in January – remind everyone who has not yet registered that January 31 is the deadline to register for $25. Registration fee will increase to $35.
- Plan a pre-ride event to promote joining the team, training and fundraising. Have a meeting, party or prize giveaway.
- Schedule a Lunch & Learn event through the Georgia Chapter Development Staff. At a Lunch & Learn, the staff member can speak to your company’s leadership and other potential team members about the Bike MS: Georgia Power Savannah Ride 2008.
- Encourage your team members to participate in one of the Official Training Rides.
- Check your goals. Your team should be at the halfway point by now.
- Keep track of team donations and current team totals and top fundraisers.
- Check the Web site for information on upcoming Official Training Rides.
- Place order for Corporate Village/Team Tent at the overnight area. Contact the Georgia Chapter Development Staff for more information.
- Last week in March – remind everyone who has not yet registered that March 31 is the deadline to register for $35. Registration fee will increase to $50.
- April 1 – Bike inspections begin. Remind team members to go by an Official Bike Store and get their bike inspected. Inspection Sticker = Free Labor on the Ride!
- Begin to reward your top team members.
- Finalize Corporate Village/Team Tent order.
- Check often with Official Bike Stores about training rides offered.
- Last week in April – remind everyone who has not yet registered that April 27 is the deadline to register for $50. Registration fee will increase to $300 ($50 registration fee + $250 minimum pledge).
- Remind all team members that they must pick up their rider packet at the Packet Pickup and Expo on Friday, May 2. THERE WILL BE NO REGISTRATION OR PACKET PICKUP THE DAY OF THE RIDE.
- Arrange any last minute details with team members.
- Remind team members about the Day One start time of 8:00 a.m. for ALL RIDERS.
